Billu - Priyan's back.

Apart from the negative uproar about the film, which I may even term as negative publicity
surrounding the word barber, which might have been aimed at generating ticket sales didn't
work to that extent. The film is nothing short of good.

A small budget film, produced by SRK himself, tells the story of how fate can actually separate and then re unite friends who are meant to be together. It shows, how people, good people remember each other and how far can one go to stick to his principles.

A brilliant, extremely brilliant performance by Irrfan Khan Sir( Billu), as a barber/ hair dresser, in a small village, married to Lara Dutta ( commendable, even though she likes the innocence of a village girl on her face, she has worked hard) and with two kids ( great job), has a simple life and a very weak business. Suddenly his life takes a turn when superstart Sahir Khan (SRK) comes to shoot in their village and theres a rumour of our poor Billu being a friend of his.

A good display of human virtues of greed and how small certain things may be in life. The film ends with a brilliant speech by SRK, and i fall short of words to appreciate it.

The positives :

1. Irrfan Khan Sir
2. Srk's speech
3. Om Puri Sir ( as the stingy comedian)
4. Village and other small characters.

The negatives :

1. Movies too long, could have been 1.5 hours.
2. Over show by the bollywood part.
3. The film rides solely on Irrfan Khan, which might not be liked by many.

Priyadarshan, has surely has a little masterpiece, and it seems he's finally back to his old good style of film making. Look forward to more such films.

Rating : 2 & 1/2 stars

Verdict : Catch it, even on dvd, it can be watched !

Dilli 6

Sheer brilliance of the film maker and the camera man puts this film together. Each and every character has been defined as if it could not be played better. Of course, with an ensemble cast of actors par excellence you may never be able to predict whether its the work of the actor or of the director.

The film, which largely covers delhi 6, has been aptly titled, and all that it lacks, is the story telling of the director. Mr. Rakeysh Mehra, known for his gem, rang de basanti, has attempted to use the same story telling formula for this film as well, which does play a good role to an extent, but at the end disconnects you from some of the tracks in the film.

His formula, is to use stereo types of India, abundantly populated in the Delhi region, who display qualities of hypocricy, cynism and consider God their only savior. The film gradually leads to a communal riot and in the end of the soul searching, just shows that how fear, and friendship can bind people more than God can.

Begining with a journey of an old lady to India, it leads to a soul searching of an ABCD, potrayed pretty well by abhishek bachchan whose, for that matter, american accent has not fluctuated at all, he fits the bill, the costume of the monkey as well as the role really well.

The positives :

1. Waheeda Rahman, maam hats off, fallen in love with the character.
2. Rishi Kapoor, Sir, with the awkward poetry, if not a punch, you sure got an elegance.
3. Pavan Malhotra & Om Puri, as the quarelling brothers, superb.
4. Vijay Raaz as the cop, perfect.
5. Atul Kulkarni, great.
6. Divya Dutta
7. Raghuvir Yadav, for a brilliant potrayal of the Ramayana.
8. Binod Pradhan, all the awards are yours.
9. Rakeysh Mehra & Prasoon Joshi, for a story that connects, delhi, to an issue it faced, to communal violence, to soul searching and finally to the audience.
10. A. R. Rahman, for a very good sound track, very into the film.

The Negatives :

1. Sonam Kapoor, superb screen pressence, but not much of a role.
2. The love story.
3. The wavering story, which though, connects everything in the end, still lacks.
4. Amitabh Bachchan sir, not a role for him.

Over All : 3.5 stars.

verdict : Worth A watch, in the theatre only !
